Valentine's Day
Is a Time for Love, Friendship,
Giving and Caring.
And encourages a spirit of goodwill and
respect for fellow human beings.
Do you know the story of Valentine's Day?...
Here it is in a nut shell.
Saint Valentinus was a Roman priest who was beheaded on
February 14 in the third century A.D.
At that time, Emperor Claudius II banned all
weddings and engagements, believing that newly married men
made poor Roman soldiers.
Valentinus defied the emperor by performing secret
marriages and has since been regarded as the patron
saint of all lovers.
So now, on February 14th, greetings are mailed or delivered by
hand to convey "love messages" to Lovers, neighbors, friends,
parents, family, anyone that we want to know how Special they
are to us. And are called "Valentine's" as are the ones who send
them.
Today, paper, lace, silk, satin hearts, flowers, chocolates,
greeting cards, and jewelry are used to supplement the traditional
handwritten notes associated with Valentine's Day. Some people even
like to send anonymous greetings to keep the recipient wondering
who sent them.

in love. In ancient Greece he was known as "Eros" the young son

was "Cupid" and his mother Venus.

When all is said and done, if you opt for the more traditional
means of expressing your Love... Say it with Flowers!
But before you do, make sure you know the true symbolic meaning
behind their color. A dozen red roses may be a beautiful site,
but think about what your saying to the recipent.
Here is a breif description on the meaning of colored roses.
RED means:
"I Love You"
PINK means:
"Grace and Gentility"
YELLOW means:
"Joy"
ORANGE (Lt. or dk)
means:
"Desire"
BURGUNDY means:
"Unconscious Beauty"
WHITE means:
"Heavenly"
BUT...
WHITE Rosebuds
Means the recipent is to young for Love
Red and White together symbolizes "UNITY".
while a single rose (any color) means "SIMPLICITY".
A dozen Roses mean feelings are more intense.
And Let's Not Forget the Ever Popular... JEWLERY.
It is traditional to hold the ring as the perfect symbol of love.
It's unbroken shape represents eternity and has symbolized a lover's
pledge for hundreads of years.
Rings given in affection were usually worn on the left ring finger
or the right middle finger, probably because ancient Egyptian
Doctors believed nerves from these fingers led straight to the heart.
Greeks often depicted a wild rabbit on wedding rings because it
symbolized Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Later, it became
custom to adorn rings with various jewels. Many gems carried their
own significance and represented certain aspects of a relationship.
So if your going to say it with a ring... say what you
mean.
Amethyst - Power
Bloodstone - Bravery and wisdom
Diamond - Innocence, purity, engagement
Emerald - Loyalty and friendship
Garnet - Unwavering devotion, fidelity
Moonstone - Tender passion
Opal - Fearlessness and consistency
Pearl - Perfect love, beauty
Ruby - Nobility, courage
Sapphire - Truth, sincerity
Topaz - Strength, cheerfulness
Turquoise - Propriety, success
No ring is more famous then the Irish ring of love, the "Claddagh."
"Claw-duh"
The simple yet elegant Claddagh ring.
A heart of love encircled by the hands of friendship, adorned by the crown of loyalty.
Meaning:
"In love and friendship let us reign."
Thus, the Irish symbol of Love.
Traditionally the ring originated in the town
of Claddagh, said to be one of Ireland?s oldest
fishing villages, just outside the city of Galway
on the west coast of Ireland. Designed by a man
named Richard Joyce. A fishing boat he was aboard
was captured by Algerian pirates and the entire crew was sold into slavery. Sadly, this was during the week
that Richard was to be married. Richard was sold to a Goldsmith who trained him well in the craft, he soon
became a master in his trade and hand crafted a ring for the woman back home he could not forget. In 1689
he was released and returned to Claddagh where he
found his true love had never married. He presented
her with the ring and they were soon married.
Although the Claddagh is worn extensively across Ireland? I assure you it?s popularity has spread far
beyond the borders of Ireland. The rings are kept as prideful heirlooms and passed down from mother to
daughter. The way the ring is worn is of great importance as this is what gives it significance.
Worn on the ring finger of the left hand, with the
heart pointing inwards is the place of pride, indicating the wearer is happily married never to
be parted. Worn on the same finger with the heart
pointing outwards denotes engagement. While worn on
the right hand (heart inwards) signifies you are
spoken for and the heart pointing outwards tells you
are unattached.
The popularity of this ring has been linked to
such royalties as Queen Victoria of England, King Edward Vll, as well as Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco. And in 1984 when Galway celebrated
its Quincentennial as a Mayoral City, the people of
Galway presented a specially commissioned 18 carat gold
Claddagh ring to President Ronald Reagan. But a word of caution? it is said to be very bad luck to purchase
one for yourself, the Claddagh ring of love must be
given or received as a gift.
Hows This For ULTRA romantic! And such a cute
idea too.
Find the perfect Valentine's Day card for your honey, then
address it with his or her name and address. Don't forget the
